About Our Speaker: Mary Govoni, MBA, RDH, CDA
Mary is an internationally recognized speaker, author, and consultant on a variety of topics in dentistry, including infection control, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, ergonomics, and team development. She brings over 40 years of experience to her speaking and coaching clients, including clinical assisting and hygiene, as well as practice administration and education.
Mary is a life member and past president of the American Dental Assistants Association, a member of the American Dental Hygienists Association, the National Speakers Association, the Speaking and Consulting Network, and the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention. She has published numerous articles and continuing education courses serves as a key opinion leader for many dental companies.
Course Description:
Dental professionals are responsible for delivering patient care within established ethical guidelines and legal regulations governing their practice. This course explores key ethical principles, professional conduct, and legal requirements for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants. Topics include the ADA Code of Ethics, state dental board regulations, and the appropriate delegation of duties to dental assistants and hygienists
HIPAA regulations require annual training updates for employees. This course fulfills that requirement by providing a comprehensive review of compliance standards for safeguarding protected health information in dental practices. Special focus will be given to conducting security risk assessments and implementing effective security protocols to prevent data breaches.

New AAP classification system of grading and staging
Risk assessment; smoking, diabetes, biofilm
Gingival inflammation and bleeding
Oral/systemic health consideration
Periodontal debridement/SRP/Maintenance
Peri-implantitis/mucositis
Self-care strategies

Navigate and interpret state dental board rules and regulations.
Differentiate between tasks that may be delegated to dental assistants and
